Charlie ------------ Category 4, Topic 17 Message 16 Thu Jul 25, 1991 C128.JBEE [* Sysop *] at 03:36 EDT It is not unusual for a nine pin printer to make two passes per line for NLQ (near letter quality) mode or for bold print. What the printer does is make one pass printing a normal character and then advances the paper slightly and prints the same image again. That way it fills in the spaces and makes the character a bit fatter or bolder. re:print at 80 columns Hard to tell without knowing what term you are using but usually you can set the lenght. You can also use one of the many print utilities here online to strip carriage returns so you can print out captured text files at 80 characters per line. ------------ ************ Topic 31 Tue Jul 02, 1991 H.HERMAN1 at 15:34 EDT Sub: RAMDrive & RAMLink tips and tricks Let's share any tips and tricks so we all can use them. 3 message(s) total. ************ ------------ Category 4, Topic 31 Message 2 Sun Jul 21, 1991 D.SCRUGGS2 [BLUE2] at 19:18 CDT Hi, In ref. to "SPORT. At best it is a nuisance, and at worst down right inconvenient to have to rely of drive #8 for running things, or parts of things. Perhaps someone else may have the info you need for the 128D. I've set up my flat 128 with a 1581 as drive 8, and one of the 1571's at #10. I installed a little black box to that 1571, duplicating its dip switches (after cutting out the dips in the 1571), and the box sits up front, so I can make it into a drive #8 when required. I've found that the only times I need to use the box are for copy protected disks, that return to drive #8 for parts. *NONE* of the software I run needs this so I rarely use it. Quite a few things require drive #8 for its parts, and all these things are on the 1581. I think, but am not sure, that JBEE has a 128D and may know how to do this. Old Salt ------------ Category 4, Topic 36 Message 2 Tue Jul 23, 1991 VOYAGER-1 [Gary V] at 07:39 EDT If my memory serves me correct, the 8023 was designed for the IEEE bus of the PET's. If the port for the connection to the computer looks something like a centronics parallel rather than the conector used for the C64's serial bus, then this is the case. In order to use it with the 64, you would need an IEEE interface. These were made by several different companys, but they usually go for at least $100 used. If I'm correct about it being an IEEE printer and you arn't interested in investing in the interface, would you be interested in selling it. I have a PET and would be interested in buying it. I have written a wedge in order to use my Panisonic with it, but it doesn't work with all software. But, it is wide carriage, is about 100 cps, and it's free. A used interface can be had for about $25 if you look hard enough. I agree though that I wouldn't bother going out and spending big bucks for an interface because you can buy brand new 9 pin printers for $140 that are far superior. I guess the question for you is if it's worth the $25-$35 to buy a used interface. If not I would give it away to someone who can use it or wants it. Although I haven't used it with GEOS lately, I do remember that it worked well with one of the CBM compatable drivers that came with GEOS. If you are getting extra linefeeds, you may want to check the setting of the DIP switch for carrage returns. If it is ON then switch it to OFF and try it again. I also remember having a two pass driver for the Seikosh that is somewhat like those enhanced drivers for the Epson compatables. I will check my archive disks and if I can find it and it isn't already in the library ( I will let you know if it already is there ) I will upload it. As far as the Epson compatable feature, it is a sometimes thing. I have found that it does work with some graphic dumps ( a MacPaint viewer that I have comes to mind ), but there are others that just don't function corectly. Unfortunately, those enhanced Epson drivers are among those that I didn't have any luck with. Although, because I also have a Panisonic 1180, I didn't spend all that much time trying to get one of those drivers to work. If you have the time to experiment you may be able to get it to work. I would suggest downloading the Lasermatrix editor file which would let you modify the escape codes of an existing driver. Who knows, you might get it to work. BTW: your message was quite garbled. Gary ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 3 Sat Jul 20, 1991 C128.JBEE [* Sysop *] at 21:05 EDT I had a 1000vc for a week and I think why it doesnt work with the multi-pass drivers is the fact that it doesn't have the horizontal OR the vertical resolution of the Epson (or clones). Which makes the printout rougher than that of a Epson. I tested it with Pagefox and the quadstrike (240 dpi) is what makes the Epson drivers so nice. I don't believe this is supported at all on the Seikosha Sp-1xxx VC printers. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 4 Sun Jul 21, 1991 VOYAGER-1 [Gary V] at 10:56 EDT Comparing the manuals for both my Seikosha and Panisonic, I find that they both use the same codes for bits per inch, N/216 linefeed, etc.. Although, the Seikosha manual said that when set to 240 DPI it would only print every other dot and ignore those in between. So, in effect, you only end up with a max of 120 DPI, but it should work ( at least this shouldn't be the reason why it doesn't work ). ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 5 Sun Jul 21, 1991 C128.JBEE [* Sysop *] at 19:24 EDT I think the difference is that the 1000vc is only MPS-803 (1525?) compatible and only capable of 480 d.p.i. vs yours being a Epson FX-80 clone and capable of the 960-1920 d.p.i. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 6 Sun Jul 21, 1991 H.HERMAN1 at 23:35 EDT 1920 dpi? There is a DIP switch that lets one select CBM or Epson emulation. The only thing is that it can only print a max of 960 dots per line, so it skips every other one when 1920 is selected. ------------ ************ Topic 24 Sat Jul 20, 1991 M.WRIGHT36 [Ridley] at 21:31 PDT Sub: GeoTermV2 This is a contiuation of the last Geoterm V2 topic. The DTJ-BBS is a shareware program for the C64. (It's available on GEnie and Qlink.) It runs similar to the Citadel group of discussion-oriented programs that run on other computers. The DTJ-BBS is somewhat unique for a Commodore program in that it does not support Commodore color graphics. It was written for sysops who don't want color graphics, but want something a little more serious looking. This software is primarily a discussion system; it encourages message posting more than other things like file transfers (although file libraries are supported). DTJ-BBS features up to 50 user-creatable message bases, 15 SIGs, 3500 messages, 4000+ character free-form message editor, 999 users, email (normal, urgent, & certified), external modules, Xmodem/Punter/ASCII(xon/xoff) protocols (with more planned), "twit" handler, optional profanity checker, word-wrapping to the READER's video width, sysop and SIGop commands, and more. Sysop/SIGop commands include enable/disable system, edit accounts, create & edit files, DOS mode, create/rename/delete message bases & sigs, read any email, kill or edit messages, and much more. This software supports all serial-port drives (1541/71/81, ICT & CMD HD, etc), 1650/60/70 or Hayes compatable modems (2400bps or 38400bps with a Swiftlink- 232 cartridge), optional CBM or ASCII printer (for audit trails), and optional battery-backed clock/calendar hardware. JiffyDOS compatable, but other ROM- based cartridges or modifications may not work. This software is unique but easy to learn and very easy to use. It's almost completely self-maintaining... all you have to do is validate new users and new upload files. It's also very fast. Many users think the DTJ-BBS runs on a PC! If you have questions or need help, leave a reply here or call the support board at 702-553-2869. ------------ Category 9, Topic 13 Message 2 Wed Jul 24, 1991 C128-BILL [Bill] at 08:27 EDT Sounds like a very nice package !! ------------ ************ Topic 6 Tue Jun 11, 1991 C128.JBEE [* Sysop *] at 19:54 EDT Sub: 512k REUs - new - $95 new REUs for less! 4 message(s) total. ************ ------------ Category 10, Topic 6 Message 3 Thu Jul 25, 1991 AMFORD at 21:55 CDT I have one of those expanded to 512k, 1764 REUs that I would be happy to part with for $95.
