Ecology, Inc: Most people realize that there was a species of parrot, the Carolina Paraquet that inhabited the south eastern US until the beginning of this century. However, there is another native American parrot which inhabited the pine forests and upland canyons in the southwestern United States as well. Subsistance hunting and later logging cut their numbers drasticly. The Thickbilled parrots are now being reintroduced to their old ranges and appear to be receiving a passing grade in survival from Mother Nature. Unlike the parrots generally seen in the pet store, these birds are temperate zone natives, living in regions that often go below freezing in the winter. Let's hear it for some tough little birds. ------------ ************ Topic 2 Date: Mon Nov 04, 1985 GRAFIX at 19:34 EST Sub: Hi-Res Grafix What kind of grafix are ya'll looking for? I think your message was a little messed up due to either line noise or an improperly set "delete" charaacter. Ted ------------ Category 7, Topic 2 Message 28 Sat Jul 29, 1989 GRAFIX.M at 20:51 EDT S.YOON1: By all means, please check your message (just type "26" at the REPly ? prompt). A bit of it was lost in the translation ;-) Regarding the parts of the message that made it....You might just have a little misunderstanding of terms. Generally, HI-RES refers to the resolution of the screen. Hi-Res for the 64 (and Doodle) is 320 X 200. This is the number of "dots" or pixels that are across and down that make up the screen image. For each byte's bit in screen memory, there is a corresponding pixel on the screen. So 320x200 not only refers to the Hi-Res "mode" but it also means the screen is Bit-Mapped, (the correspondence between physical memory bits and screen pixels.) The opposite of Bit-Mapped would be vector graphics or OBJECTS. An object is the description of the shape without a bit for pixel correspondence. This lets one make an object larger or smaller and not "loose" or change the artistic quality of the image. For example: if you draw a circle on the screen about the size of a dime. If you make a bit-mapped image of that circle double the size by cutting and pasting, you'll end up with lots of stair-steps rather than a nice clean image. With an OBJECT, the description of the circle is the same, it's as if you have redrawn it from scratch at the new larger size. By the way, virtually everything on a 64 or 128 is a bit-mapped image rather than an object. Bit-Maps are much simpler and quicker to define if it doesn't change size. About the only place you'll find objects is in some CAD applications (Computer Aided Design.) It also sounds like you may be having some trouble with color on your Hi-Res Bitmap screens. There are some serious limitations regarding color that you need to understand and take into account when draing a picture. You can only change the color in each 8 pixel by 8 pixel square. Every "on" pixel can be 1 color and every off pixel is another. You do not have control of the colors on a 1 for 1 basis with the pixels. This can result in some pretty blocky looking pictures unless you are very careful. There is another major mode called multicolor (Koala pictures are an example) but they are somewhat more complex. Give a shout if you are using these and are having problems. I hope this has answered your questions, but if not, please feel free to re- post it and ask me to go over any specific problems you might have. \\GFX// ------------ ************ Topic 15 Sun Jul 23, 1989 J.DIMATTEO (Forwarded) Sub: GIF L Help- !
