In general I like Star printers so I'm leaning towards a Rainbow 1000. I'd like some feedback (positive or negative) on any/all color printers or plotters before I buy anything. Also on printer interfaces... I have an old Cardco G+ I don't use, an MW-350 currently in use and a Xetec Gold on order (hopefully here before the week ends). WWould there be any advantage in buying a Commodore ready printer? (ie the NX-1000C Rainbow) Or is there little or no difference once everything is hookedd up? If you have ANY opinion on this I'd like to hear from you. ------------ Category 11, Topic 45 Message 2 Tue Nov 28, 1989 HORO [ SysOp ] at 00:00 EST I've heard good things about the Star Rainbow. Re: Interfaces: You actually get MORE with an interface (I have a Xetec SuperGraphix, not the Gold one). In addition to all the regular features of your printer, you also get extra fonts built in, the ability to download fonts from disk (supplied), enhanced graphics modes, and some other nifty stuff, like the ability to translate special characters in program listings into several forms: either the symbols that appear on the keycaps, or the things the magazines do (i.e. [Blue] or [SHIFT-LEFT] or whatever). ------------ Category 11, Topic 45 Message 3 Sun Dec 03, 1989 D.LARIVEE at 19:47 PST I am having a terrific time with my Rainbow printer. I have converted GeoWrite files to GeoPaint then colored the file and printed it with my correspondents giving rave reviews on the results. I also have a lable pprogram which I use and am able to print multi-color label's for mailing my letters. I am obviously very pleased. Until you sign on, and CIS examines your personal profile, it assumes you are at 7E1. The reason you're seeing different results at 300 and 1200 bps is probably due to CIS keeping separate profiles for each bps rate (in fact, by naming the profiles, you can have even more.) If you log onto CIS at 1200 using a different terminal, and GO TERMINAL, you should be able to set it for 8N1, and be all set for 1200.
