I've had a LOT of trouble with DIALING with my Hayes at 1200 baud. My lo byte, baud rate factor is down so low that the modem has trouble with the commands with auto-dial. It works fine once I get on-line, but getting ther is the trouble. I found the easiest way out is to just goto terminal mode and just issue the ATDT####### from there. Works like a champ for me that way. Give a shout if that isn't the trouble! \\GFX// --- Nov 04, 1986 DEB [*deb!*] I, too, had a lot of trouble with my bTPro and 1200 baud. Also, which version are you using? there are two versions of both the 64 and 128 programs. *deb!* --- Nov 04, 1986 DEB [*deb!*] Another very important factor in making Auto Dial work is to have your carrier detect set properly!!! In the case of a HAYES modem and a VIC 1011/A - Saylor interface, you want the CARRIER PHASE to be a +. Look on the Parameters/MODEM menu... CARRIEr DETECT must be ON CARRIER PHASE should be + When you return to terminal mode, the status line should NOT have the inverted character on the carrier indicator. IF it does, use the switch on your modem to make that modem return only TRUE CARRIER status, in other words, if there is a carrier to your modem, then the modem will set that line high on your computer. If there is no carrier, then the modem does not supply carrier. When you have NO carrier, and you are properly configured, the status line will disply the time in regular letters, as well as the carrier indicator. As soon as you DO receive a carrier, the time will go into inverted characters, and start a NEW timer <> and the carrier indicator will also light up. The autodial does, of course, depend on being able to interpret whether you have a carrier. Now...the 1670 modem requires a CARRIER PHASE of - rather than +, which I think was discussed last week sometime, too. *deb!* --- Feb 01, 1987 D.RANELLI need help from someone with an Avatex 1200 modem I have bob's 64 verd sion 2. Set your Carrier Detect dipswitch to the setting that 'follows true carrier'. Set the 'phase' on the Modem parameters to '+' When you are NOt connected, this should result in the words CARRIER up in the left hand corner of your screen to appear in regular characters. When you are connected, it will become REVERSED. You will want to read the section in the BobsTerm Pro manual which deals with 1200 baud 'fine tuning' very carefully, also. You can dial from the auto dial menu or you can dial from terminal mode. IF the modem is hayes compatible, and I don't really recall just how many or few commands the original Avatex supported, use: ATDT5551212 To dial...use ATDP for pulse/rotary dialing instead of ATDT. If anyone can help please leave a message here or in my mail box ........R Puccio1 --- Apr 12, 1988 GRAFIX.M [GFX *SysOp*] If at work and you need to access your 64, you could run a "power" term like Bob's Term Pro in the Remote mode. Your 64 then acts like a mini-bbs. It will answer your phone line and (with the proper password) allow you to access any of the files on your disk. Or try one of the smaller BBS systems to run on your 64 while you are at work. If you have a phone line available that you can use at the office, you can do the same thing there. When you leave work for the day, fire up a BBS or power term program (Qmodem/Procomm/etc.) and call your PC from home with a term program running on your 64. Both ways, be SURE to password protect your system! --- Mar 07, 1988 JIM.RUSSELL Does anyone have any experience using BobsTerm with a 2400 bps modem? I have a friend who recently got a new modem, and is having problems. I suspect it is the Baud Rate Factor, since he is getting lots of garbage characters. I know I was a fool for buying, but when it first came out I didn't know any better. Jim --- Mar 13, 1988 W.ROBERSON Sorry BTP does not work with the 6480. Try Sixth Sense 128. The folks at Microtechnic Solutions, Inc. are enclosing an advertisement in the box with the new 1670 modems. SS128 will work with the 6480. Bill --- Sep 07, 1987 CHARRINGTON [Courtney] Like GARYW, I use a US Robotics Courier at 2400 baud with Bobsterm on the 128. Works like a charm. The 64 can also be pushed to 2400 with some errors. You have to buy an external modem and then run down the proper interface for the users port. They are advertised in most com- puter magazines for 25-40 bucks. Good luck...you'll find that 2400 is just like being there in real time. Courtney --- Sep 10, 1987 DEB I use an AVATEX 2400 with my C128 and BobsTerm Pro 128, as well as a null modem for Amiga-to-128 transfers at *4800* baud, or PC-to-128 Xfers at the faster speed. I'm with Courtney, 2400 can spoil you fast...! ::grin:: *deb!* --- Sep 10, 1987 JOEBROWN [Joe Brown] Deb!, I am using a Mitac 2400BD modem with an Omnitronix interface with BobsTerm Pro-128. The Mitac is Hayes compatible. I find BobsTerm Pro-128 to be an excellent program, in fact, I would venture to say it's the premier C-128 communiations program. I have one problem though at 2400 baud, and maybe there is some tweeking I can do to the program (although I've tried everything), to fix it. It seems that when I am receiving at a "real 2400 baud" like a long text file from our TBBS system, (rather than a pseudo 2400 baud like the high price data service) that the buffer gets full and starts to garble, sorta like the old BASIC terminal programs did at 300 baud unless you put in printer delays. I'm reasonably sure that it's the speed of the program because when I press CTRL-S to stop the incoming data it takes a second or so to fully stop, which I assume is the buffer is being emptied. Of course during xmodem transfers everything is just fine because it's only receiving 128 bytes at a time. This is much more noticeable when the capture buffer is open. My current settings for the RS-232 port is Baud Adj Lo = 070. Baud Adj Hi=001 Was just wonderning if anyone else has experience this problem? Even with this minor problem, I can't say enough good things about the program, it has certainly made my remote sysoping a breeze, just LUV that buffer that can be edited!! Oh...while I'm at it, I have seen a number of messages about true carrier detect. Well, with the Mitac and the Omnitronix (with all switches to the right) and BobsTerm Carrier Phase set to +, when I send a AT&C1 in my initialization string (in the Autostart Macro) the program detects the carrier perfectly. --- Sep 10, 1987 JOEBROWN [Joe Brown] Correction to my last message. I gave the settings for 1200 baud. For 2400 baud my BobsTerm Pro settings are Baud Adj Lo=112, Baud Adj Hi=000. --- Sep 12, 1987 DEB Joe: I'd fiddle with your lo baud setting one or two to see if you can get it to be any better. You are sooo right, tho, the REAL test is in continuous streams of text. <> Lets see...someone wanted to know about the AVatex. The AVatex is a 300/1200/2400 baud RS-232 modem which requires an RS-232 interface to use with your 128. The RS-232 interface plugs into your user port, then you use an RS- 232 extension cable and plug the modem and the interface together. When using a null modem at 4800 baud, I use the same interface, but unplug the modem, and replace it with the null modem. *deb!* --- Sep 12, 1987 JOEBROWN [Joe Brown] Deb!, I guess it's just not fast enough at 2400 baud. I tried everything. Again, I would like to stress that the buffer only gets overloaded when the capture buffer is on. But, what the heck at 2400 baud, it's almost as fast to download. Have a nice weekend! --- Sep 12, 1987 GARYW I have my Lo Byte saet at 113 and works great. No buffer problems. --- Sep 14, 1987 K.ROHRER I also use a 2400 baud modem, a Prometheus Promodem 2400. It is com nnected to my C128 w/ an Omnitronix De, luxe RS232 Interface ana d I also use BT Pro 128 term software. I have been uploading and downloading programs and text files off of BBS BBS's for some time w/o ano y problems. I just use the default settings w/o any adjustments. ^Kevin --- Oct 13, 1987 T.BETTEAU One thing to check when using Bobsterm 128 at 2400, make sure Emulation mode is turned off, this can slow things down enough to cause buffer overflow problems. I have my baud adjust set at 111, and it works fairly well. I also have PaperClip II which has a terminal mode, and 2400 baud works PERFECT on it, no garble , no buffer problems, and capturing to buffer (actually, it captures right to the word proccessor) causes no problems. They claim it can run at 9600 baud with NO problems, but I don't have the abillity to test it. If anybody out there has PaperClip II , and an Amiga/PC clone with a null modem cable (Like, maybe DEB? :)) how about giving the 9600 baud a test? --- Sep 05, 1987 GARYW I use BTPro 128 and a USR 2400. It works great and I have no problems. ---
