This is how I view and test all the Handyscan files I upload (because someone was borrowing my Pagefox;) For viewing outside of GEOS than donwload file #8847 and #8846 from Lib#22. This is the handyscanner program itself and it will load and view the file directly. Note though that you can only view screens 640x400 pixels. If you have the Pagefox or use GEOS you can view the whole 640x800 bitmap. I have read the Wizard manual front to back a couple of times and perused the messages here, and am still having some trouble. Bill posted a good message about line noise causing some menus to not appear (because Wizard missed the "here comes a menu" identifier). Well, I have the same symptoms sometimes, but I'm almost positive I don't have line noise problems. It has happened every time I've dialed up since I started using Wizard, and I really never had any lost characters with my previous term program (Desterm) due to line noise. Basically, I never get the top menus (the one we all get dumped into) in the menu box. Is there some reason for this or ? Like maybe it won't happen if I'm using an auto routine to log in? I am using a SwiftLink-232, if that makes any difference. Kent ------------ Category 5, Topic 28 Message 2 Sun Aug 11, 1991 D.LARIVEE at 18:24 PDT Kent, If you are using Wizard version 1.5, you won't get that top menu when you first sign on. The older version worked fine but version 1.5 has that bug which slipped by the beta testers. When you get signed on and that menu displays on your screen, if you want it in the Wizard menu format, type "COMMAND OFF" and GEnie will then resend the menu and Wizard will read it correctly. ------------ ************ Topic 29 Sun Aug 11, 1991 DR.EVIL at 12:58 PDT Sub: Neat features to have Here are some ideas for Wizard 2 message(s) total. ************ ------------ Category 5, Topic 29 Message 1 Sun Aug 11, 1991 DR.EVIL at 13:03 PDT The main thing I would like to see is a way to NOT have to put your password in the FKEYS file. It's a big security hole to have the password where anyone who happens to have access to my disks can get it. I like Wizard being able to log me in automatically. I would recommend that Wizard allow me to type in my password at connect time (it could provide everything up to an including the ","). Or, the password could be in the FKEYS file but it would be encrypted. Then, at login time I would provide a 2-3 character decryption key. That would save a little time (and memory) over typing the whole password. It would be nice to be able to chain several of the auto functions together and have all of them execute in one session (i.e., not log me off between). Perhaps there is already a way to do that and I just haven't discovered it yet. Kent ------------ Category 5, Topic 29 Message 2 Sun Aug 11, 1991 C128.JBEE [* Sysop *] at 20:36 EDT Good suggestion. Sturdy, all metal, nicely made and finished surfaces, handle is spring activated and also can be locked into the closed position and quickly released with a press of the handle. Also contains a nice disk guide so you get it right every time. One hand operation for the punching, its so easy it is like a hot knife through butter. If you have to make flippies of thousands of disks at a time like I do then this is the disk notcher you need! $6 plus S&H ------------ that's all folks!
