MOST OPTIONS AND PROMPTS ARE FAIRLY SELF-EXPLANATORY AND SHOULD CAUSE NO PROBLEMS. OTHER AREAS WILL BE EXPLAINED HERE: THE TOTAL NUMBER OF RECORDS AVAILABLE (300) IS APPROXIMATE AND IS INTENDED ONLY AS A GUIDE. YOU MUST CREATE A SEPARATE FILE FOR EACH VEHICLE. ON THE MAIN MENU, YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF PRESSING EITHER THE HIGHLIGHTED NUMBER OR LETTER TO PERFORM THE PROGRAM FUNCTION YOU WISH. ON THE LOAD AND SAVE ROUTINES, IF YOU LEAVE THE FILE NAME BLANK AND PRESS RETURN, YOU WILL ESCAPE BACK TO THE MAIN MENU. ON THE ENTER NEW RECORD ROUTINE, PRESSING RETURN WITH NO ENTRY IN FIELD ONE (SERVICE ITEM) WILL ALSO ESCAPE TO THE MENU. WHEN ENTERING (AND EDITING) RECORDS, THE LENGTH OF EACH FIELD IS PRESET AND CAN NOT BE EXCEEDED. USE COMMON TERMS FOR THE SERVICE ITEM NAME IN FIELD ONE. THIS WILL BE A HELP LATER WHEN SEARCHING FOR THE TIMES YOU'VE CHANGED THE OIL. SUCH TERMS WOULD BE OIL CHANGE, TIRES, BRAKES, ACCESSORIES, SHOCKS, MUFFLER, INSURANCE, OR LICENSE PLATES. YOU CAN ENTER ONLY NUMERIC CHARACTERS IN THE SERVICE COST FIELD. (ENTER THE COST AS DOLLARS AND CENTS WITHOUT USING THE DECIMAL POINT. THE PROGRAM ADJUST FOR THIS, AND DISPLAYS THE DECIMAL POINT WHEN VIEWING THE RECORDS TO SCREEN OR HARDCOPY.) THE EDIT FUNCTION IS ACCESSED THROUGH THE VIEW RECORD SCREEN. WHEN YOU EDIT A RECORD, YOU MUST ENTER THE COMPLETE INFORMATION FOR THAT LINE. IF YOU ARE ERASING THE CONTENTS OF ANY FIELD, BE SURE TO PLACE A DASH [-] IN THE FIRST POSITION OF THAT FIELD. DO NOT LEAVE ANY FIELD COMPLETELY BLANK!!! A BLANKED FIELD WILL COMPLETELY FOUL UP THE RECORDS WHEN THEY ARE SAVED, AND YOUR DATA CANNOT BE RECOVERED WITHOUT A LOT(A LOT)OF EXTRA WORK! WHEN YOU DELETE A RECORD, THE PROGRAM CHANGES THE SERVICE/ITEM NAME TO "DELETE". THIS "FLAGGED" IS NOT REALLY DELETED UNTIL YOU SAVE THE EDITED FILE. UNTIL THEN YOU CAN REINSTATE THIS RECORD "FLAGGED" RECORD BY SELECTING "FIND" ON THE MAIN MENU, SELECTING SERVICE ITEM NAME ON THE FIND MENU, AND ENTER "DELETE" AT THE SEARCH PROMPT. THEN EDIT THE RECORD AND CHANGE THE NAME BACK TO THE ORIGINAL ENTRY. WHEN USING THE FIND ROUTINE, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ENTER THE ENTIRE WORD FOR ANY SEARCH. THE PROGRAM AUTOMATICALLY SORTS THE FILE INTO SERVICE DATE SEQUENCE AS PART OF THE SAVE ROUTINE. ALL PRINTOUT ROUTINES (FORMATTED FOR STANDARD 8.5 X 11 CONTINUOUS FEED PAPER) SHOULD WORK ON ANY COMMODORE COMPATIBLE PRINTER. YOU CAN PRODUCE HARDCOPY PRINTOUTS FOR THE ENTIRE FILE OR FOR SPECIFIC ITEMS BOUGHT/SERVICES PERFORMED, A SPECIFIC PROVIDER, OR FOR A SELECTED YEAR. A TOTAL EXPENSE AMOUNT FOR THE ITEMS/SERVICES LISTED IS ALSO GIVEN AT THE END OF EACH PRINTOUT. THE TOTAL COST OF THE ALL ITEMS IN THE FILE IS AVAILABLE TO THE SCREEN FROM THE MAIN MENU. (THIS TOTAL IS TAKEN FROM THE SAVED RECORDS ONLY!) NOTE: THE PROGRAM DOES RUN FASTER IF IT IS COMPILED, BUT IT WAS LEFT IN BASIC LANGUAGE FORM SO IT COULD BE MORE EASILY MODIFIED (IF NEEDED) TO ACCOMMODATE DIFFERENT PRINTERS.
